I have a broody hatching out six blue eggs that are from Americauna hens with mystery roosters as dads. The one that just hatched has brown legs but looks like an Easter Egger. Will these chicks lay blue or green eggs because of the blue-egg gene in them or could they lay brown eggs ?

Easter Eggers can have any colored legs, especially if you cross them out with other breeds. If the chick has a pea comb, then there is a greater chance she will lay a blue egg, but not a guarnatee.

When you are mixing breeds you have to be very patient to find out end results. That didn't help at all, did it? I have a hatchery ee roo I bred over a variety of hens and 90% lay a green shade of egg. The ee genes have really dominated for me here so if you are wishing for green/blue eggs I hope that gives you some hope.

It depends on the dad. If the Easter Egger parent lays a blue-green egg (sorry, unless I see evidence it is an Ameraucana spelled right.

) and the other parent holds brown egg genes, you'll get green or brown laying offspring. If the parent has the same blue-green genes, you'll get blue-green laying offspring. Here's a simple chart:

blue/green parent x blue/green parent = blue/green offspring
blue parent x blue parent = blue offspring
brown parent x brown parent = brown offspring

blue parent x brown parent = blue/green offspring
blue/green parent x brown parent = green offspring / brown offspring
green parent x brown parent = brown offspring / olive green offspring

Leg color does not indicate egg color - However, comb type does. A pea comb should be a good indicator of colored eggs, and if the parent is a white egg layer, a white earlobe is a bad indicator.
