Blue/green eggs...how strong a light to candle?

Agreed re the ambient lighting... even the tv on in the next room makes it too hard for me to see through.

Hope you can see stuff soon... for me it became very apparent at about 7 days that four were yolkers... cracked them, and they were... then one developed a blood ring and lost its veins, cracked and it was early death... then one last one had lost its veins and seemed like a smaller dark area with blood pooling... also a dead chick, with the insides on the outside. Kinda glad that one did not make it. At any rate, I think my point is to use a super dark room and to compare the eggs to one another. The lady I got mine from said just to shine the mag light down onto the top through the air cell, and you can see veins all around. That does seem to work, but I hold them, too.

LOL Good luck!!

What do you mean by yolkers? That they were clear?

We candled 3 blue EE eggs with a Brinsea Ovascope and could see very clearly veining, movement of chick, etc. My son has a pic of it. I'll try to upload it in the morning.

A yolker is an egg that never started to develop, as opposed to a quitter, that started to develop and then died, or "quit"... those usually have the blood ring that you can see when you candle. (from my VAST experience of ONE hatch so far...) LOL Others can chime in if I am wrong, but this was my understanding from what I have read.

So is it the same as what is called a 'clear'? Would it look just like an egg on day one?

We love the Ovascope! Great for kids to observe the development of the chick. I love that you can see them moving!

WoW! That beats my expectations of that candler! Maybe I will get one after all - that is the Brinsea that you put the egg inside of, right?

Thank you for confirming this...it's what I was hoping! We took our very bright outdoor flashlight, and a piece of black hose insulation with a finger-sized hole punched in the center. Went into the bathroom (no window), took time to position the black piece over the flashlight so that the light spot on the ceiling was the brightest and then started candling. We saw definite air sacks in all 6 of equal size and darkness so I'm doing the happy dance.

Oh my goodness but that is so incredible!!!!!! Anyone who has tried to candle a blue/green/dark egg will appreciate this. I'm now trying to sweet talk DH into buying one of these but I doubt that he will

I would love to be able to see everything going on! Guess I'll be content with knowing the size of the air sack.

oh but I'm jealous!
