Blue heron and geese family

Theres this lake that always had a flock and a couple of families of Canada geese. One day this other family shows up with 3 goslings and they acted very territorial. Both the goose and the gander would continuously chase the other geese as if they were protecting their family and did not want those other geese there. After two weeks, that family ended up staying at the lake and the rest of the geese that would always be there left and have not come back. Now it’s just the family with 3 goslings, and ever since all the rest of the geese left this blue heron has been showing up every single night pretty much staying with the goose family over night. What could this mean? Is there a reason why this blue heron stays with this family of geese every night?

I have no idea but if those gosling were just hatched he'd be looking for an easy meal if he could get past the parent. Maybe now he sees them as body guards. Although you'd think the heron would fly up into a tree at night for safety.
