Blue isn't so blue?

Is there a splash gene when dealing with ducks like there is in BBS chickens? Maybe you're duckling is splash - either way, it's adorable.

there is a splash gene like with chickens but i dont think its listed the same way. think they call it something else. anyways a few things to understand are that sunlight fades pigment. ducks can be kept in better color when given ample shade. also, corn tends to bring out the kinda creamy yellowish color on white ducks. i know that exhibition pekins are said to be desired at a more creamy yellowish color and solid pale white. either way, don't know if this helps but it could mean something.

I found A blue feather on her this morning. Maybe the other feathers will realize they were supposed to be blue too. Or I'll have a white duck with A blue feather LOL

Very possibly a silver/splash, ie, extended black with homozygous blue dilution. There is no single splash gene, rather, the effect of gene combinations.

I had two I thought would be blue and they turned out to be spash/silver. They got pretty light colored before darkening a bit when their feathers came in. Pics as ducklings and as juveniles:

In my LAST batch I actually had a couple of blues (one of them is in this picture). They were definitely darker than the barely blue ones from the first hatch.

LOrraine,

Wonderful ducks! Just beautiful.
How in the world do you get them to pose like that?
Amazing. LOL
The one where two of them are side by side, in step with each other, that is cool!
