Blue Kote

After hearing many amazing things about blue kote, I went out and bought some. I've used it 3 times so far and I have only one question... how long does the stain on this darn thing last?! Honestly, I'm impressed- not even sharpie has lasted this long without significant fading. But I would really like my hand back soon... the girls find the purple stain is very interesting and have tried swallowing my fingers a few times so far

Stay tuned; I applied some around my hen's rump due to peck wounds, so I *may* wind up with a purple egg. Maybe

IMO the stuff is worthless.
The blue color can actually attract pecking attention.
Vetricyn is just as good, or better, antiseptic and won't stain anything.

Agree with Aart! I stopped using or recommending the stuff years ago after many months of using it with no change in the frequency of feather picking.

For the record, I've heard that hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol can help to remove the stain from your skin. I've never tried it to be certain, but it's worth a shot, right?

I agree. I won't even lie and will use vetrcyn on myself if it's more handy.

Unfortunately, alcohol of any kind doesn't seem to work. I'm almost tempted to try acetone, but the prospect of smelling like a nail salon isn't all that appealing. Guess I'm stuck with the stain for now. If people ask I'll say that I'm a distant cousin to Barney

That stuff has a lifelong toxic effect , egg withdrawal, from what i read. I just use blue food coloring.
