Blue Kote

Well, i looked up what info i could find. Apparently it is not approved for use on chickens. Not approved for use on horses to be consumed for food. Contains Gentian violet, which causes cancer in lab rats. I would rather ne cautious than sorry.

Just had to treat a big skin split on a hen. I'm sure it was from rough or over mating. Didn't catch it in time to stitch it up tho. Had to clean all the dirt out of it from when she did a dust bath. Yuck. She is inside for now.

Good to know! Thanks y'all.

Unfortunately, alcohol of any kind doesn't seem to work. I'm almost tempted to try acetone, but the prospect of smelling like a nail salon isn't all that appealing. Guess I'm stuck with the stain for now. If people ask I'll say that I'm a distant cousin to Barney

Ah, darn, sorry that didn't work!

Wonders if anyone found the reason(and proof) for a lifetime of egg withdrawl when it's used on chickens?
I think it just has not been properly tested for poultry, for economic reasons. So people err on the side of caution.

Yes, I believe it's because it hasn't been tested, so you're supposed to assume that there's a lifetime withdrawal. It's not that it actually sticks in the system for their entire lifetime, it's just that the actual time it takes to wash out of the system to the point that it's not detectable in eggs or meat is unknown.
