Newer to chickens, I was sold this chicken when it was supposedly 5-months old, and now it's at 7-months old. No crowing and no eggs either. On a previous thread one commentor said cockrel, the other said hen. But now the tail feathers are making me think it's a cockrel. Any thoughts?

Follow-up question. I discovered another one of the 8 chickens that we bought is also a cockerel. Can i have two roosters in a flock of 6 hens? I have another 4 very young pullets, and am building a 2nd coop/run for them big enough for 6. I could put the younger cockerel w/ the 4 young hens when they're big enough. Can I let them all free range together? Many thanks!

I currently have two cockerels (7 months old) with 8 pullets (same age) and they get along fine. The two cockerels hatched and are growing up together, so I think that makes a huge difference. They have a dust up on occasion, but nothing serious. I don't know if they'll continue to get along as they mature, but it depends on each individual cockerel/rooster.

My two cockrels have grown up together, they do face off from time to time, but this one is about 3-months older than the other. I'm not sure how important that is.

Since I'm going to make a 2nd Coop with four birds, perhaps I can bring over the younger cockrel if there are problems.
