Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Does this picture look like what you were describing as pointed SalinasChicken?
I'm new at this also, he is 8 months in this if I remember right.
This is him at 10 months.

Yes! That's what I was trying to describe. I wasn't referring to hackle or sickle feathers, but rather the actual red color within the feather. Should it be pointed or rounded? Does it matter? Does good lacing make for more rounded red? So many questions! Hahaha, I'm going to drive you guys crazy!

Thanks for the links delisha! I've been checking them out, great stuff! It's so much easier for me to talk to people though, than to read about it. I will try to make contact with the WBA District leader of my area to see if he knows of anyone in closer proximity to me, so I can pick some more brains!

i believe proper lacing should follow the contour of the feather, regardless of feather shape... so on a hen, the feathers would be more rounded, thus the colored center also rounded, while the more pointed feathers of a roo would show a more pointed center...

properly laced birds have a uniform edge all the way around. incomplete lacing can show up as a wide edge that doesn't always go all the way around, or even just lacing at the bottom edge of the feather.

the bottom right image is correct, the rest would be considered incomplete (the birds may not breed true 100% of the time either because the genetic makeup is incomplete in one or more mutations).

I have had large roo wyandottes that as they are growing often get a knock kneed look and they have grown out of that awkward stage. One reminded me of Big Bird:) give it time especially the big ones, they have a long time in maturing.

I have 12 eggs under a broody silkie hen. She is the best momma. Can't wait to see how they turn out. Collecting more eggs for the incubator from these guys. Here are a few new pics.

My youngest boy Harley, about 10 months now. He is HUGE. Love him:)
