Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Quote:
This is starting to seem like the black copper maran forum. Blrw is a cross until its been around for long enough to truly breed true.
it does breed true... as true as blue is able to (blue/black/splash lacing on a deep red background). but it's a project variety still, and not accepted by the APA yet. so we're working on perfecting type, markings and the intensity of the dark mahogany red.

as with any breed you're going to have good and bad variations, even if it's an old established breed. look at the buff orpington. it's been around forever, but you're going to find some that are true to the SOP and some that resemble anything from a clean legged standard cochin to a single combed wyandotte... it depends on so many things. like if it came from a hatchery or breeder, the breeder's interpretation of the SOP, and so many more variables.

the goal of this thread (IMO) is to help people recognize what it SHOULD be, and to have enough dedicated breeders working toward that same singular goal, so that eventually the standard can be submitted to the APA and have it recognized.

please do not stop your conversation for me, but i just wanted to jump in the thread to share pic of my new chicks (still hatching)

Cute chicks. What were the other breeds? BLRWs should have a chipmunk look.

Any interest in a BLRW cockerel that needs a new home?
He's not from hatchery stock, purchased from a breeder in San Diego. At 5 months old, he's been free-ranged with the rest of the flock, and shares the hen house with two other roosters. This cockerel is surprisingly athletic when the dominant rooster notices he's courting the hens =) He gets along fine with people and pays attention for treats.
We're in SoCal, would consider meeting someone for delivery.
I can't seem to upload photos to this post or buy/sell/trade...if anyone wants to see one, please PM.

the other breeds are
-sliver laced wyadotte
-lemon c orpingtons
-white silkie

(and 1 egg of the proud hen mother that would be a cross of withe leghorn(roo) and american game(hen), but im almost sure i saw that one egg still unhatched)
