Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

I have a question, I.have 5 chicks a couple days from 5 weeks, when should I put them out in the coop? I'm in virginia, the temps are high 60s to low 90s. Is that too cold? how long should I wait? They spend the days out side in their pen until about 9 when it starts geting dark then back into the brooder. Not using light anymore, the room they are in is very warm... Just don't want to do it early and have them get chilled over night. Thoughts?
Please and thank you all!

I too am in VA, I put mine outside as soon as they are feathered out. So it was week 3 or 4, they all pile on top of each other anyway.

I have had mine in the coop for a week now. They will be 4 weeks tomorrow. But I just started leaving the lights off at night. They are almost all feathered I have 6 blrw in with 11 others and they are slower...so..they seem to be happy! I should have e the run finished tomorrow, so no more catching them and going back and forth to the makeshift...playpen!!

Its been pretty warm here ( sw virginia) it the weather cooperates ill put them out in the next day or two, there is a chance of thunder storms here tomorow and the next day, dint want the first night out to be scary for them, coop has a tin roof and can get loud during a hard rain.

LOL I just tossed 30 or so assorted chicks ranging from about 5 days to 3 weeks outside today. granted they're all part of orpingmomma's brood tho, so she'll keep them warm and happy.

this was a few days ago. you can't see most because they're roaming the box, hiding under momma, etc. LOL

and yes, that's a weeble-dotte sitting on the edge.

This is Blue. Aprox 8 weeks old. What do you think? His color in person is very 'mahogany ',in the pictures in the morning sun is harder to tell.

I like this young bird. He has so much potential for a young bird. I would like to see pictures in a month. He looks wide already and seems to have a nice chest developing. His lacing will get better too.His color will deepen.

Quote: Cure chicks..

I live in Wisconsin. It is really cold here. Mine are outside in 3 days. The mom does it and so do I. I have had chicks in the house longer when it is bitter cold like below 0. I try to avoid January hatches. i tried it once for the contest on here. I am not doing it again. The dust never goes away.

Mom and chicks in snow.

If it is done right..chicks can be conditioned with out heat very early. I take my chicks outside and on the ground starting on day 3. They go out no matter how cold. If it is really cold like under 0, they are not put out long. The are outside in a brooder reguardless. I use the brinsa brooder. Best investment I ever made. I need a few more. If it is raining..they still go out. I just make sure they can get out of the rain.

thanks, I'm pretty excited about his color, he looks so gorgeous already. his litter mate, Chip, who is the same age is not nearly as pretty, and his roo features are not as pronounced as Blue's is. Chip's role is second and he knows it. He knows he is second in command, hopefully they stay on friendly terms.
