Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

i was replying to mhamilton's comment on light/dark splash. splash and black don't have shades, blue does come in various shades, depending on what other genetics might be in the birds' background (ie melanizers, diluters, etc).

Splash, black, and shades of blue. got it.
that site was confusing.
so does that make Katy's Birds (in a previous post) splash, or shades of blue?

Everyone needs a good dose of chick booty this morning!

ROFL!!!!

ugh..it was 70 here today..a bit chilly compared to your weather. I would not be able to have birds in that kind of heat..you could not get me out of the house. I cry if it gets into the 90's. I fill wadding pools for the birds because the snow is all gone for them and I feel bad for them.
Please do not take pictures in that type of heat..I would worry for you..ugh.
Thanks a storm came through this morning & a light slow rain for a couple of hours, the temperature dropped to 70* :celebrate

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas where I could buy some REALLY good quality hatching eggs?
I'm not concerned about price - I may not be able to buy them right now if they are expensive, but I would love to get my hands on some REALLY great quality birds and thought you guys might know who has great birds and sells hatching eggs.
I'll have some available IF my girls ever decide to stop being broody... limited quantities, since I only have 2 girls right now, but...

look back a few days for the 2 chicks produced so far (that I can trace and show online). the other chicks that I know of are owned by 'dinosaurs' who don't do the internet or share photos, but I have seen them recently and they are on par with these 2 boys. several others were sold at a swap (needed $$ more than birds at the time) and lord only knows where they ended up.

on a side note, my bantam pair is now penned. my newest acquisition (patridge bantam cochin) has been released from quarantine and joined them simply because the big guys were overwhelming her. and i'm planning a blr cochin project, so we'll see how they pair up. she will have her place in the project anyways, since she's got the mahogany and pattern gene, I would just need to add the Columbian and blue. which I also have growing out too. LOL I don't think i'll have many eggs available immediately, because I want to see what they'll produce first. she's been broody but hopefully moving to a new pen with new roommates will kickstart the egg machine again.

thank you for the answer, I've seen her birds up here before and wanted to know which color they were.

has anyone seen the kids movie 'chicken run'? i watched it with my kids today, how funny that i see a lot of wyandotte look a likes. lacing on feathers, curvy birds.. .. or do i just have 'wyandotte goggles' on?

I am new to wyandottes and have a couple questions regarding my 2 blue laced red 5-week-old chicks...

I ended up with a splash and a black. The black one has blue tips on a lot of her feathers. Is there hope that she will have some blue lacing after all?

Also I want to see what you guys think about the sex of this little one. I've read that wyandottes are especially difficult to sex. I am puzzled by this chick. Wide pink comb, wattles and delayed feathering at 5 weeks says cockerel to me. But it is also smaller in size compared to the others its age and has tiny, dainty little legs. The personality seems very pullet-like to me. I probably need to wait a couple more weeks, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Quote: At hatch you can look at heads..look for the wider ones. You can also note beaks. They should be short. All lines are different as far as development in body style and shape times. Some lines take 18 months to fully fill out. So if they have over all good qualities, you keep them longer to see how they develop. You can feel bone structure at a young age too. Straight keel bones, no wry tail..things of that nature show pretty early. Look at the bird from a top view. Make sure it does not narrow at the shoulder or the tail.

I am really sorry..not my intention..I know you have valuable information and know more than most do about genetics. Including myself by tons.
Sometimes additional information is not helpful. I was hoping to add to your good information..not direct it to you.

For consideration:

You might consider buying a quality breeding trio..that way you can see the birds. Or...
You can hatch out a dozen eggs from two quality birds and get all culls too.
Pictures of my other 2 chicks, only got 3 out of 3 hatchings. 11 week old GL & 10 week old ?

Had to throw in another picture of my pretty girl "Sarah"

I like the blue girls body too..love that color blue too. That round chest goes all the way down where it should be..you can ship her here. I need a really nice blue.

Quote: I have not seen the movie..
Sorry about that link being confusing.
