Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Quote: I do not blame you for getting chicks. 30% is pretty low. You have pretty chicks. They are chicks and each chick has a different growth pattern. I can't say if white is male or female for sure and that goes for all of them. I can only guess at what my eye sees on a picture. It is a guess and I can be relatively confident I am 50% correct. I am confused about my own birds and the chicks are 2 months old and i can handle them.

My problem is that until we get rid of cockerels from my previous hatches this year, I'm maxed out for coop space, and I have no chance of getting any more this year (and next year is unlikely too). If I ordered chicks, I'd have to spend a lot, it would be straight run, and I'd have to have somewhere to put them. *sigh* I found a place 2 hours away that has them, but the hen they have in their pictures has a single comb, and I'm not thrilled with the hackle color on the roo. Next closest is 4.5 hours away, and that's a lot of driving for chicks....enough to pay for shipping on a trio. Oh decisions, decisions.

well you have a pair..you can start there and add later after you get more room. Nothing wrong with starting small. You can always add a pullet here and there to water your gene pool.

what? be patient?

Alrighty. I'm back with 8wk old pics. I attempted to get a body/profile picture and a comb picture. Not entirely successful for getting the angles I wanted on some, but I think they will do the job. I hope. Gender guesses?

White-band Chick BOY

Blue-band chick (black laced red) BOY

No-band chick (it would NOT cooperate) BOY

And Pink-band chick (poorest lacing/red so far, but I'm hoping it'll improve with the next molt.) PULLET

If genders are what I suspect they are, I need to either get more chicks, or get more eggs. *sigh*

I lost my beautiful Maisey today. Im not sure what happened. She was gasping for air. No sinus or eye drainage.

Nothing in her mouth.

I thinking it was gag worm I'm not sure. We'll see tomorrow.

I have my crew on Duramycin just incase.

There will never be another like Maisey. We were so close.
