Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Here is an update of my boy(at 14 weeks) I got from Karen... (he is most def a boy) and is bigger than my full grown hens that are a year and tower over my barred rock girls that are 22 weeks (and not yet laying grrrr)

no crowing or attempts to crow, and since I am laid up at home after foot surgery I would have heard it. Maybe he is a huge freakish pullet????

It was hard to get a pic of his back side but it seems a little narrow from the back

When viewed fro the front he has a wide stance

A male for sure..
He is a nice dark color. He has tons of filling out to do. His lacing should improve with his last juvie moult. He looks like he has nice wide tail feathers. He should look pretty nice in abut 3 more months. I would like to see a picture than. I am not sure about his comb. Is that a dimple in the middle? He looks like he should grow out to be pretty wide from the upper view. The front view picture makes the chest lacing look orange. It might be your flash.

well, some hopeful news...  an update on my foley girl BLRW that was snatched by a coon the night of the 4th...  apparently she was slow going to bed. it grabbed her by the head and dragged her away, but the dog got there pretty quick and stood guard over her till I got out there...  she's got bite marks on both sides of her head and I think her neck may have been damaged too from her struggling.

anyways, she was still breathing and when you harassed her she'd shuffle her feet, but wasn't moving her head or neck at all. hubby said her pupils were reactive to light though, so we left her in the hospital cage with food and water. she hadn't eaten or drunk anything and didn't move hardly at all. even when you put her beak in the water she made no attempt to drink...

as of yesterday I saw no improvement and had decided I was going to put her down last night. but in checking her over, I noticed a clump of poop on some vent feathers and decided to at least pull that off, since I wasn't ready to 'do the deed'...  it was dried to the feathers, so i had to remove a couple of them.  well that woke her up! her head came up and she looked at me, but quickly went back to sleep. so I bothered her some more, (she hates her wings touched). and while she was awake I put her face in the water and got her to drink some. hubby said she was more alert this morning but still not moving around much, but instead of laying on her side she was a bit more upright.

so she gets a reprieve for now...  we keep waking her up to make her drink at least. can't seem to get her to eat, but if she keeps drinking at least she won't dehydrate and maybe it'll give her time to heal.  best we can figure is she's got a severe concussion. possible brain damage too but that remains to be seen.   so for now we are keeping fingers crossed that she continues to improve.

I'm leaving the door to the hospital cage open, so if she's feeling froggy she can hop out any time. but I don't think she's anywhere near ready for that.

Let her sleep. Just like humans, her little body will be in repair mode. " hope springs eternal ".
I hope your little one pulls through!

I still want him back, if you're still willing... especially with my foley girl 'up in the air' as to whether she'll join the breeding crowd again... I've got one pullet definitely hers, the chick that ridinshotgun has i'll be getting from him at Gilmanor, but I still want as many options as I can get to get this line going again. one pair is a PITA to work with.

how about my hens? i actually have three but the third one won champion at a show so i am not worried about her. i wish the blue hen had more mahagony. i could not get a good picture of the splash hens posture but its identical to the blues, as you can see from the picture.

Hello everyone!!!! Those are some very awesome birds. I have fell in love with blue laced red wyandottes over a year ago and I finally have some.

The shots make it hard to tell structure except we get a peek at the bottom bird.
I see mahogany only in one bird the rest look buff, gold, and orange.
To evaluate a bird, front, side, head, over the top, and rear pictures are needed. Age of the bird.

I will try on these pictures and can only comment on what I see. It is not a fair evaluation to the bird.

No fronts on these birds. The birds need a full front, think circular. That chest needs to be full. it is important for hens because they use the chest to cover eggs.
The tail needs a bit more height. You should be able to set a golf ball perfectly at the back just before the tail. Short backs. Flat shoulders. Birds with gold, orange or any other family besides mahogany should be bred out and culled if it reproduces. Orange/yellow and brassy is hard to remove and keeps popping up. Try not to use any golds/white/or solid blue in the neck for breeding. It messes with lacing and will give more problems down the road. Wide soft feathers are best. A wide tee pee/tent for a tail. I see wry tail in the photos. Wings should be level and a little loose. These birds point down.

The bird is walking so it is hard to tell if she has an arched neck. I could not draw it. I am computer illiterate. But imagine taking her head and neck.. stretching it up and out a bit out to create a pocket to set that golf ball in... in the space just before the line i drew and the oval I made.

All the grass you see inside of the oval should be bird.

Here is one picture of one bird and it gives more detail and you can see more with this type of picture.(Foley bird)

For picture taking in evaluation...if you only can take one shot.....
(one of my chicks)

you can see head, arch of neck, round chest and sweep of back. You can see where the golf ball would go. The one important thing you can't see is the rear. The tail feathers are visible and you can tell the bird does not have wry tail. The wing is visible and placed correctly. Feet/leg color is visible. So if you can do only one shot, this type is best. I am a horrible photographer and my birds try to eat the camera if I have it to long in my hands so i know how hard it is to take pictures. I am jealous of all the people who get beautiful pictures of the birds.

I like the mahogany splash girl, but honestly the other has no mahogany gene to pass along, so unless you have superb type and a super dark roo, I wouldn't use her. just my opinion of course, but if I WERE to use her, i'd also hang onto her offspring and breed back to mahogany again before selling anything out of her.

another thing I just noticed, her wings don't tuck up as nicely as the splash girls... so that might be another reason not to use her IMO.

I really love how colorful they are. I'm a fan and I don't know much other than you have some beautiful birds.

I know they are really bad pictures but i was wondering if anyone could tell me if i would be able to show my rooster? I mean like is he up to standard enough to show. Thanks everyone!
