Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

This is such dreadful news. 2 x dogs killed all of my slw in my grow out pen in February . I felt so helpless . What an absolute waste . The dog owner in my case, had to reimburse me for the birds, but that was cold comfort. All you can do is go home and pick up the pieces. Tend your surviving birds and start over. I hope that the law in your town, put the wind up your neighbor . The police would do nothing here, but the council charged him under the " loose dog act ", I hope that things are not as dire as you think, and perhaps your friends here will rally together and help you restock your lovey blrw.

I am so sorry that happened. What a shame people do not keep their dogs at home. Even if he replaces/ pays for chickens - it is not the same as having the babies you raised.

Thank you. I raised most from chicks so its hard going to the backyard and my lovelies not be there. I looked forward every day to wake up get their feeders filled and there waterers. I had to baby step to not step on them, but now they don't want to come close. One of my roosters just sits and doesn't move. I got them their favorite treats but they don't want it. My three blue Cochin batams were killed too. They were so fun to watch running around in the yard. It really hurts.

I love dogs. I have a 14 week old jack russell terrier. I got him two weeks ago, I've wanted chickens and a dog for almost ten years. What hurts the most is that I wasn't home to protect them, and now they don't run to me to see what I have for them to eat.

goes out to you. My dogs were very confused by what happened here, cause they know not to touch my chooks. Chin up mate!

Hello everybody. I just received some horrible news while I'm at work. My neighbor's dog came in my backyard and killed 13 of my chickens. Some meat birds and some of my blue laced red wyandottes. My bestfriend got home to the attack. Chased him down the alley way but couldn't catch him. I won't get off work for two more hours. The cops came because my friend was chasing the dog with my gun. They made a report and I just spoke with the officer who was at the scene. This sucks. I don't know which ones were killed. For sure my foleys are dead.

I am sorry this happened. Make sure you document every thing when you get home.

that was very brave to get a jack with chickens. My terrior is 12 years old and I finally can trust her this year with my chickens.

I stepped out my back door and seen a hawk fly out of my back yard today. It was not a pretty site. Chicks have no defense against predators. That dog was a predator.

That makes me sick for you :( how many are alright?

I know us chicken people are a tight knit people. Thank you every one. My two blw roos were trying to fight the dog off. My splash roo has no injuries but my blue was hurt. He is the man in this here parts. I lost my 2 favorite blue hens, I begged and begged a gentleman to sell me some of his foley stock for six months. He finally sold me three chicks. One turned out to be a rooster, my blue and the two hens. I thought they were black laced until delisha cleared that up for me. My respect to delisha always.
I lost all 4 of my new splash pullets and all my meat birds but two so 17 dead. I talked to the officer and he was lost for words at the sight. I lost 3 cochin bantams very lovely. I just don't know how to talk to my neighbor about what happened. A friend gave me a rir named kania, I bought two more rir so she wouldn't be lonely. Thank God they survived. Kania did get attacked.
I fell in love with blw 4 years ago and I finally bought some. The first were my splash. I drove an hour to get them. They were chicks fell in love with them from the start. The 4 splash I lost I drove an hour and a half to get them. They were so lovely and gentle.

My neighbors tried to make themselves the victims by saying the rooster crowing disturbed them. That some of my chickens were sometimes in the alley way. The officer explained to them that their dog went in my property and killed my chickens. He told them that by the look of my property he thinks they were my pets just like his dogs. I have a puppy jack russell terrier I'm responsible for. I'm always were I can see him and control him need be.

I'm so sorry, I've not had the problem with lose dogs yet because I live in the countryside with my closest neighbour a field away. I have a near farmer who sometimes gets fox hound puppies to raise for my local hunt and they sometimes come across the fields and into my garden but they are scared stiff of my chickens because my ex bats chase them around quiet aggressively, and they are already use to chickens because my the farmer breeds wyandotte and he has got thre trios of blue laced that he has just bred from. I hope you can get some new birds soon, good luck

I don't know what Texas law is like, but in Michigan, when the neighbor's dogs got into our chickens (in July) Animal Control came out and made a report, the dogs were turned in by someone else who found them running, and he got a ticket.....a big one......when he came to spring his dogs from jail. Now, in Michigan, you can also hold the dogs' owner liable for damages and losses, up to 3x the actual amount. Actual damages for us were about $300. In our case, he's an older man, on disability, and has yet to pay us. DH is going to go knock on his door again since he's stopped answering or returning our calls, and if he doesn't have money for us at this point we'll probably be taking him to small claims court.

Just saying. Document. Document. Document. If you have records for feed costs, bird costs, if you have a LLC and sell your meat birds, chicks, or eggs you can factor all of that in to your losses. If they damaged your property, your coops, your fencing, include what it would cost to fix it.

I am so so so so so sorry this happened. It's horribly devastating when it happens to *you*

vladsko I am so sorry for your loss. It's heart breaking. Last weekend I drove more than 4 hours round trip for some blrw chicks. I would be devestated if a neighbor's dog gets to any of my chickens. We have alot of wild predators and try your best to protect everyone. Hang in there.
