We have 6 one-week-old BLRW chicks (who are adorable, btw!) This picture shows how 2 of them have MUCH more advanced wing development than the other 4. Anyone....does this mean we've got 4 roos or is it too early to judge?

There is a consensus on the wyandotte thread that they are sex linked and can be feather sexed at day olds ( some lines could vary, but generally) I agree with your speculation, 2 pullets, the rest cockerels. In a few more weeks when you know for sure you should update on this thread.
My 4 week old splash blr has proven feather sexing them for me, I had nothing to compare to with my 2slw & 2 glw pullets, but now I'm sold on feather sexing Wyandottes.

Any thoughts on 1,4,5,6?  Blue or Black?

It would be shocking to only get 1 blue out of 10 chicks from a Blue Roo and a Blue Hen and a Blue Roo and a splash hen.....and also get what looks like 3 blacks....equally surprising

I have a pair from Foley that tend to spin off lots of darker blues down to charcoal. Out of the last 28 I hatched 2 were splash, 4 were correct blue and the other 22 are jet black-dark charcoal laced. You'll know when you get a black, the head fuzz is generally black with a touch of red towards the forehead much like a gold lace chick. If they are any sort of lighter blue they will be splash or blue. Lines do matter to a point. I have another line from Duane Ulrich (sp) and all of those chicks come out med brown with a choc stripe and will generally come out med- dark blue where as the Foley birds are all generally blue to some degree, anything else is black or charcoal.
With that said there is no homogeneous blue where the blue is the same or even near correct across the board. While mating black to splash may produce all blue there will still be a very small percent that will ne a clean and correct blue. It takes a lot of chicks to come up with a flock of proper blues. It's waaaay more work and labor intensive than I ever imagined.

I am usually pretty good at wing sexing as I've done it for myself and several others without much error but the BLRW throw me for a loop. I have and have had chicks you would swear were Roos. Long legged, no tail, slow feathering, even feather tips on wing and red combs at 4wk that turned into hens. Glad I slacked on going to the auction thinking someone would buy my Roos. I would have been selling hens. There is a reason the hatcheries vent sex Wyandottes.

Last night I came across a post about what to look for in chicks and adults for breeding good lines. I'm not breeding, mine are just pets, but one of the things to look for in chicks is that the slower to feather, usually means better lacing. Sounds good to me. I'll stop comparing her to the other chicks then. :)
Waiting to see how they feather out as hens is almost as bad as waiting for the hatch. I'm going to drive myself crazy!!

It seems to be true at least with Foley birds. I have some 6wk old and are just now getting feathers on the shoulders and behind the neck. It takes mine 8+ wk to be fully feathered. My Seramas, buff wyandottes ,minorcas, rir, legbar and marans are fully feathered by 6wk
