Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Pics
Ooooh! Subscribing to this thread! I was just gifted (a big surprise!) by a friend three 5 weeks old BLRWs. I had heard of them before, but can't say I had seen them. I'm planning on reading back through this thread to get more info on them - primarily how they are as far as temperament and laying. I am really looking forward to seeing how they feather out and whether or not I have cockerels or pullets!

ETA: I am about 99% sure she got them from a breeder she met at an auction or swap somewhere along the way. This is the first time I have ever had outside birds come into my flock so I am a bit nervous. I have them separate from the others and will for a while. Really really hoping they all make it!

#2? Hmmm... can't tell if it's the same as above, or a different one

#3 - the lightest colored one... also appears to have some barring on it's wings? (that's what it's called, right?)

All 3 together.

I read through the first half of the thread last night and learned a LOT about the coloring and patterns of the breed (still much much more to figure out I'm sure). The legs are a pinkish color which I know is a no-no. They all have what I assume will be rose (?) combs - definitely not singles. I know the lady who gave them to me gets them pretty cheap so maybe they are culls from his breeding stock? No idea. I don't really plan on getting into breeding at this point so I figure no matter what they'll add some color and variety to my laying flock (can't wait to see them and the Barnevelder fully feathered out. Far cry from the plain jane 4 I have right now). Eventually I want a more specialized flock - either to start breeding, or for a good quality laying flock (not just focusing on production, but hardy heritage breeds), but for now I'm just having fun testing the waters of different breeds and how they are with the kids, laying, weather tolerance, predator awareness, etc. Before now I just had chickens to get eggs. That was it. I want to do more with them though, just not sure which route to take.

I think I see two boys and a girl. Normally the boys have more red in the wings. Also the barring will go away with adult feathering from what I have seen. You do want to breed for more yellow legs. That has been the hardest part for me as I cull all the pink legs possible.

To me this looks like the only possible female. Can you get better pics of their combs?

Nope, that was the first of the three to crow!

Here he is yesterday at 10 wks old:

And the only one who hasn't crowed yet, definitely looks like the other boys:

Does anyone have an idea why his whattle looks doubled? Is that just bad genetics?

I looked closer and the pics of #1 and #2 are definitely different chicks. They look very very similar, but #1 has a light clump of fuzz in the middle of its back while #2 is all dark fuzz. Just over the last couple days #2 is starting to show roo signs. I looked close at the combs and his(?) is starting to grow just at the base (still slightly hidden in the fuzz). Almost like mini triceratops horns or something. And starting at that point it's beginning to get pink while the other two are still flesh toned. You can actually kind of see the pink color starting in the pic above. I'm anxious to see them feathered out though... especially the one with a bit of barring. Since I doubt I will ever breed them it's not a huge issue if it goes away or not, and same for the legs.

Watch, now that I say that, in 5 years that's probably what I'll be doing

Well yup this new pic is def a boy lol. The wattle that looks doubled may drop as it ages? Weird.

Does anyone have a picture of a black..I have a BLRW chick, but I'm not sure if it's blue or black. I'm sure it's not splash after looking at the pictures in this thread.
