Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

I do not challenge others on there chicken keeping practices. I try to share information on what I do in my daily practices. I am not and never do tell people what they should do. I just share what I do and what works for me. I never recommend drugs or chemicals. I am not a vet nor qualified to tell people to use drugs or chemicals. What works for me might not work for you.

Apple seeds and other type seeds like pumpkin, contain a substance called amygdalin that can release cyanide under the right circumstances such as contact with digestive enzymes. The cyanide is linked to sugars in the form of a cyanogenic glycoside and these cyanide-releasing compounds are remarkably common in nature. I try to let nature do its job and let chickens be chickens. The cyanide that is released helps to keep the levels at good balance. I also ferment my foods and that also keeps the gut inhospitable.

This is information only. It is not given to tell people to NOT use drugs. Some chicken keeping practices require drugs and chemicals for maintenance and bug removal.

Thanks ki4got and delisha. I can't seem to find how long it takes for the eggs at the base of the feathers to disappear for lice. I had a pullet with them. I isolated her, cleaned all the shavings out of my raised solid floor coop, washed it out, sprayed with neem oil and put new shavings in. I dusted the pullet and all the others. I redusted her with sevin yesterday (been about 2 weeks) and will do the rest today. I did not see any bugs on her, but the eggs are still around the vent area and I noticed what appear to be eggs around the tip of a couple of feathers on her breast area. Any thoughts.
I think the cycle is 7 or 10 days actually... you might google it. but I usually re-treat 7 days (with ivermectin). a good bath might help remove some eggs too. (long story short - utility sink, warm/hot water & dish liquid or flea shampoo. rinse well, then do second rinse with water & white vinegar - use a bucket and soak them in it for a minute, getting them all soggy again - rinse once more and blow-dry.. most of my birds have loved getting baths.

So I have been having some serious issues with this site...
It won't let me do anything, I cant upload pics, change any info,.and half the time gives me hell trying to post things. Does anyone else have these problems, or know how to fix them?
Ive been working on a blrw photo timeline, but its been weeks since ive been able to add photos. The upload screen changed and I can't do anything now.
Can anyone help?! Please and thank you!

3.5 months! These are going to be BIG birds it seems. They've grown taller then almost everyone in the flock and are heavier bodied then my HQ New Hampshire, my EE, and one of my Marans. As my first set of better quality birds, I'm pretty happy with them :)

This one was hen raised and not a fan of humans. I've gotten very few pics of her. She has very little red even at 3.5 months, at least compared to her sister.

This is my brooder raised pullet who is very friendly as long as her GLW "mama sister" is around. At night, she still tries to sleep under the much smaller GLW, lol!

I'm guessing this is "round"? She looks like a basketball with feathers thanks to her plucked tail.

Hoping her lacing gets cleaner and finer...

I was told that you can tell the girls from the boys when they are little by their coloring. Is that true?
First you need to tell me what you mean by little. Little to me is weeks old..to someone else it might be under a year.
My first tell is the wattles. If they get them early they are male.

Feather color does not work for me in young chicks at all. If someone knows a way to tell by feather color i sure would like to know too.

The two I bought were one day old. The guy told me, when I asked if there was any way to tell what sex they were, that the lighter color stripe on their backs meant they were girls. He pulled out another o e that was much darker and said see, this is a boy.
