Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

They are delightful . What lovely rich colours.

Thanks ya'll!
I cannot get over their coloring, either. So many beautiful shades of blue, and all with the same redhead ;)

I used a lightbox and pro lighting to take photos for the first time. I am so pleased with how they turned out - but I wish I laid down a white towel instead of green! There was a heating pad under the towel so they were very warm & toasty..

Chickenhill has got some good birds!
Yes she does!

Beautiful!

What do the colored leg bands mean?
thank you ma'am!
they don't really mean anything, they're just to help me differentiate one chick from the other. sometimes it's useful, if chick X does something (eg: escaped out of the brooder at 4am, yes this really happened!) then I can check on that one in particular later. I ordered the chick bands in 3 sizes on BYC from DMRippy :)

one thing to note on the bands - pink & orange fade into the same color over time. blue & purple also become similar over time. I am using 2 or 3 bands in combination colors to help with that :)

one more!

Thanks for giving them a good home. Spoiled already! Curious, what size bands do these chicks have on? I will have to order some from DMRippy. The plastic twist on bands are tough to get off at times...These bands look more user and chick friendly!

They're wearing the smallest size, 1/4" right now. They're very easy to put on, and to take them off I cut them with baby fingernail scissors :)

I agree banding chicks can be handy. especially when you have multiple groups hatching at the same time, either from different breeders, or different breeds that look similar... learned that the hard way last year and sold some of one breed, to find out they got some of another.

I'm actually getting eggs, but I only sell chicks. I'm not sure why, but my BLRW eggs have not shipped well in the past. All my other breeds ship very well. I have very high fertility and excellent hatches at home. I feed all fermented feed - whole grains and soy and corn free organic layer mash. My girls have free choice of calcium (oyster and egg shells). The only thing I've noticed is that the chalazae seems to be thinner in the BLRW eggs. Anyone else have this issue?

I see the same thing. I don't know what is up with that but I don't like to sell Wyandotte hatching eggs..... usually not a good out come in shipping. I get 100% here both fertility and hatch usually.
