Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

IMG I'm looking for honest opinions on what yall think about this pair for breeding

Breeding opinions?
I'm new to this but from what I've learned somewhat wouldn't you want to breed the hen/pullet to a black due to such a light splash color? As far as quality, their are much more educated people to answer this question. I am also curious to their opinions in this situation. I only have blues period and the percentages are so spread out.

Quote: if you could provide pictures from the side and front with the birds standing naturally (not held or crouching/eating) that would give a better idea of what you've got.

the only comments I could offer right now, the rooster looks more orange than he should and the hen has a very light hackle, you want dark, and her color looks a bit light too, but she is darker than the roo, I think...

as for the comment about breeding to splash, it all depends how dark the mahogany is... repeated splash breeding will fade the color, so you want to go back to a deep mahogany dark blue or black laced bird when working with splash.

this is my current pair breeding. and a cockerel from the same rooster (possibly this hen or another that I lost) that I'm keeping for backup. (the pictures are old, the hen is now 2 and has a nice dark hackle (for a splash)...

The main reasons I eliminated her from my prospects are the brassiness in her hackles and the inconsistent lacing and coloration. I wouldn't use her for a serious breeding program if you're trying to advance the breed, but she has some good qualities and will give you some cute chicks. She is going to be a BIG girl! :)

Let me know if you want me to dig out any other pics of her to post. There are some people on this board who can give you much better direction than I.
