Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

So I'm set with the start of my flock! I'm just so excited!

My rooster (Foley stock I'm told). Not the best picture as my camera kept freezing!

My splash hen fall picture. She's much bigger and fluffier and more defined lacing.

The three girls I just got today (Happy Birthday to me).

Again, not the best pictures. Top one is a 2013 model, the other two are 2014's. The two younger are sisters, the older not related. None are related to the roo or the splash hen.

The three of them together...

Now I can't wait for spring!!!!!

They are from me actually. First generation here on my ranch so they were the best of the bunch I started with. I will grow out around 100-150+ this season and pick the top 6 or 7 from those to add to or replace in the breeder flock. These birds are only about 10 months old so full adult lacing is still in progress (takes up to 18 months I hear)..so far I am happy with them. Temperament and egg laying is superb, roosters are gentlemen, they forage well and are very hardy overall. This year I will be working on darkening the brown to the desired mahogany, cleaning up the lacing etc.

I took the splash hens out for a color experiment I am working on so there is be no splash in the group. You are welcome to PM me anytime with any issues. I do my best to keep folks happy as I have many that come back yearly.

Of course, eggs in the mail are always a risk. Sometimes I get one out of a dozen to hatch when I buy, other times I get 9 or 10. There seems to be no reasoning to it. I try to pack well and send fresh fertile eggs. This year on eggs I sent, only one reported back with her BCMs and she ordered 12+, I sent her 16, and 15 hatched! That is better than my own hatch rate here with no travel time....

Not the average but happy to see it...

Jerry Foley has some chicks up for sale on Feather something auction site.  Last I looked the reserve was not met.  Nice stock can be found it is the wrong time of your.  Not many can ship in these cold temps.  Egg wouldn't do well right now so just not the right season to get stock.  Papabrooder in CA has BLRW, they look to be good stock and he is shipping chicks but probably only where the temps allow.

First I would educate myself so I would know what good stock looks like.  I bought my birds direct from Jerry Foley out of his breeding pens.

Last I checked they were $351!

I can drool...... lol

I have to agree with you also Peaky, this is the start of my third year. I have yet to have issues with his particular line. I have seen others say they have his line but I just don't believe it to be true thru experience. They may have started with a bird from his line and purchased several from other lines but are not culling out at all. Just putting the name on it and trying to make a fast buck.
