Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

I have a quick question. I read about 2 hundred post and my head is spinning and I am trying to figure out the best and appropriate colors for BLRW. I've been looking all over for some chicks to start with and have only found 1 store that will get a shipment in. I don't have any contacts for local breeders yet so hopefully I can learn a few things when that happens. I bought 2 being told it was a red-laced and ended up taking two blue Wyandotte instead. I guess the lady didn't know different and Silly me.

I'm looking for some guidance or assistance to where to start. Any BLRW person looking for a mentee? Or can someone point me to an article or thread that can help me learn some more.

Definitely in love with this breed and after having about 12 different breeds this is what my heart is set on. Thanks all.

Hi Vinnie, why don't you ask your questions here? Lots of knowledgeable folks on this thread!

Jerry Foley is dedicated to breeding BLRW and getting the color/breed accepted into the APA. His lines are often referenced by other breeders who were lucky enough to snag some of his genetics.
Here is his website: http://www.foleyswaterfowl.com/
Here is an article he wrote and posted for free: http://www.foleyswaterfowl.com/blue.pdf
He also has a $10 E-Book available on his website above called Breeding & Culling BLRW that is a good place to start educating yourself about BLRW.

Breeders -
My stock is from http://chickenhillpoultry.com - she has beautiful birds! she has a waiting list but they are worth it.
PeakyBeaky / Nittany Wyandottes has great BLRW too! http://nittanywyandottes.weebly.com/

I am planning to breed my birds from ChickenHill this year and will be selling/culling my splashes and blacks but not til later on this Summer. I'm in Oregon, not too far from WA - but I don't ship!

Thank you for the information. I really appreciate all of it.

Please let me know what you have available and when you do I wouldn't mind a road trip to Oregon.

You see , now that's what I call ' networking '. If your heart is set on Blrw best to buy from breeders and start with good parent stock.
Here's a colour chart to bookmark , it explains the possible variations with blue breeding. Good luck .

Thanks for the post. So it looks like having quality Blue, splash and blacks in stock is necessary to breed back and forth so the genetics are not diluted when breeding. Is there a general preferred color for BLRW's or all 3 is acceptable for breeding standards?I had an opportunity to obtain 2 decent looking splash pullets today but hesitated because I thought the Blue laced variety was the ultimate preference.

Hen or rooster? i hate to think its a rooster. they were about 2 months old here. and idk heard something kinda like a crow this morning but from this picture is there ANY sign of signs saying to roo?

here are some dated pics of the girls. 9 weeks now and been outside for 3 weeks.
