It may be the lighting I have noticed when taking pics some of ours have looked lighter in the pictures too especially the red on the pullets. The Blue will come in a wide array of color The trick to getting a good even blue color is to use very evenly colored birds. Blues with some black or splash with some black feathers will often produce uneven colored offspring. they do appear darker in these photos than teh previous ones.

Hi All,
I am brand new to keeping chickens and just had to post something here real quick, because these are the birds that tipped the scales for me and made me want to get chickens. I have 8 chicks, 2 each of Barnevelders, Wheaten Marans, Welsummers and BLRW. They're straight run but at this point I am sure I have one roo and one pullet of each, EXCEPT for the BLRW's which are completely mysterious. They're smaller than all the other birds now, although in the first few weeks they were the largest. I adore these birds - they have so much personality, curiosity, they're precocious and are escape artists. Here's Dottie, who is my favorite, at 5 weeks, looking frumpy:

If she turns out to be a boy I'll have to buy a house in the country and take "her" with me, because it would break my heart to have to part with her. (I'm in Seattle where we can't have roosters). I have LOVED seeing your photos - please keep posting and sharing them. These are the loveliest birds and I can't wait to add more of them to my flock.

So, a splash would be any shade of blue, that includes white or black somewhere, correct? If so, I have a couple that are splash and a few that are not.

Those newest pictures may have the same little rooster in a few of them.

Genetics question, a splash x a splash will produce all splash? a splash x anything else will produce 50% splash? Do not go too deep with an answer, I am a long way from breeding anything. Those of you that do have a good grasp on it, you can see it in your birds. I will end up with 4 or 5 roosters and will need to decide on a couple to keep.

The biggest indicator of a splash rooster is some green feathers mixed into their tails. No black. Most splash hens end up white laced red. I have had some with a hint of blue.
Splash x black laced red = 100% blue.
