Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

the guy passed through here from ohio. He was at FFA convention and was going back to georgia. No way to get them back... he didnt even argue with her when she gave them to him( i wouldn't of either). I made her pay me the diffrence(30 bucks).. talked to foley. All he has is blrw pullets for 100. Do not have the money now. And supposed to be getting my blrw bantams soon. So bleh. Atleast I have my big black laced roo. He is turning out perfrctly( IMO) The pullet has good type. Just hope the offspring will have good lacing
I sent Foley and email about a week ago and have not heard back. How quickly did he respond to you when you contacted him. I purchased eggs from DMRippy but am also interested in his stock.

DMRippy- Eggs are doing well. Looks like 3 clear when I candled at 7 days, the rest showed some veins.

I put all of them, even the clears, back in and will candle them later tonight (10 days). If the 3 are still clear I'll remove them. Looks like we're going to get slammed weather wise at this point and I was worried about losing power. My father (who worked for Cummins) had a generator given to him when he retired and he gave it to me today.

I'm praying that we dont loose power or that its not out that long however we do typically loose power in big storms and usually its for few days at a time.

Good Luck! I hope you don't lose power too. If you do, cover that bator up with blankets and put hot water bottles all around it to keep it warm. Got cats? Let them sleep on it. LOL

BTW he got back with me pretty quickly, but he was also going on a trip and I didn't talk to him for a week. He may be camping or something....

No cats, 4 pugs but not the same! I'm going to run a cord to the generator, lol, these babies are NOT getting cold for too long! Thanks so much for the tips regarding the blankets and hot water bottles. I'll send a follow up email to Foley in a few days but wonder if he might be sold out of his breeding stock as well. I've read now that a few people have picked some up or had them shipped to them. Not sure how many he wanted to part with.

hatcheries may be great people to deal with when doing business, but for the QUALITY of a bird (how close to the breed standard is it?), you're better off with a breeder.

hatcheries are in it to make money. they use the birds that lay the best and hatch the best, not what looks the best.   breeding top quality birds rarely makes anyone money LOL
but for people who just want layers or yard art it doesnt matter..or to start kids in raising poultry. I wouldn't buy a kid an expensive bird starting out.

Regarding the Meyer birds - I got three BLRW this summer.,one splash, one light blue & one really nice deep blue.   Only one has a correct comb (the splash), the other two have single combs.  They're nice little additions to my flock, but I was disappointed in that. I'll be getting my next ones from a breeder.

Like someone mentioned before they throw single combed bird in to produce more birds. Which of course throws single combed birds. Even rose combed birds from a hatchery has a good chance of throwing a single combed chick. So for breeding purposes it would be nesr impossible to breed it out.

For people who order hundreds of chicks to raise as layers to sell, I wouldn't get breeder birds. Just in case if somethinf happend. I wouldn't pay 10 bucks for each chick instead of 3 bucks for a hatchery chick. If it was just for the house or pets. I can see getting better birds.

I've never posted on this thread before, but I'm really interested in LF or Bantam BLRW and I was hoping someone on here might know someone who has them. I'm looking for high quality
