Blue leghorn and black leghorn hen produce only black males

I was about to say he doesn't look like a splash to me, and that one parent was a white Leghorn. He is not splash and it's hard to tell if he carries the blue gene or not. You could try a test breeding to see what you will get. However since he is not splash then you will not get 100% blue offspring. I expect you will get a lot of white.

As for black hens coming from a blue pen, blue x blue results in 25% black, 50% blue and 25% splash offspring.ch

Leghorn color is dominant white, which almost always covers up every other colour. He might be split to splash or just be a normal carrier of black--and I don't think you have any way of knowing which.

A Leghorn should carry two copies of black (hidden by the dominant white). That means your boy has at least one black gene from his mother, and possibly a second from his father.

If he is split to black, the offspring will be 50/50 black and white. If he's split to splash, you'll get 50% white, and 25% blue and 25% black.

This is a blue boy and a white leghorn girl.

This is their non-blue offspring bred with a black hen.

This is their blue offspring crossed to a black hen.
