I have been calling around to the various feed stores and garden centers the last couple of days to find out which breeds they have coming in this week. I plan to get about 14 of my chicks from feed stores next weekend. One of the garden centers said that they work with a local breeder. He brings in a few standard breeds each week and occasionally a breed that is hard to come by. They never know for such which of the unusual breeds he might bring in. They said that for example he brought in some Blue Marans this week. They have no idea if he will be bringing in any more or not. They only had two left and they were sure they are pullets. The breeder is about 98% accurate on his sexing. I said that I would really like them but that I can not get to their store until Fri Apr 2. To my surprise they said they would hold them for me!!!
I went ahead and paid or them over the phone with a credit card just to make sure they hold them. I now am the excited owner of 2 Blue Marans.
The price seemed really good at $4.50 each. I can't wait until next Friday to pick pick them up. (and about 12 other chicks from other stores.) I will post photos next weekend. And who know's what surprises they may have in stock when I pick these up.
AND I am waiting for word from a local breeder as to when he will have my other chicks ready. It could be next weekend as well. I am getting some great breeds from him including 3 BLRW. As I am writing this I am starting to wonder if this breeder is the one supplying the garden center I am getting by Blue Marans from. Hum.... Maybe I could have got them direct from the breeder.
