I am starting a thread about my chicken flock. This will include my plans, breeding, stories and other things to do with my flock. If you have any suggestions on any of the topics feel free to post! :D My current plans are build my chickens a new roost and the get some Red Dorkings so i can have my own breeding program. I will also be getting some chicks from a feed store for some egg variety. i do have 2 fenced in pastures so i can separate my flock into 2 so i can breed the dorkings. I will only be keeping dorking roosters! any suggestions on how to build a shelter for the dorkings only to be used in the breeding season.

note- i can be an erratic poster typing things in no particular order. but there will be some order to it:lau

Gee thanks anyone know if sebrights will go broody? I have one and am wondering on wether i can expect chicks or not. I am hoping for chicks cause they would be 1/4 dutch bantam, 1/4 d'anver, and 1/2 sebright. The dad is an amazing flyer and i really want chicks from them:fl:fl:fl!!!! might set up a small 2 chicken breeder unit hmm:confused:. what do you guys think?

Hi Clearwater!

Your question about Sebrights made me pull up this older thread:

It says they seldom go broody, but that's not saying it never happens! Guess you'll just have to see what happens with yours.

Best of luck with your plans!
Thanks for the info might have to collect the eggs and hatch them in my incubator!

I am now collecting egg for a huge hatch, all my incubator can hold, a total of 41 eggs. I am so excited to do this. I put up a new roost in the hen house but some of the chickens refuse to roost there and it is so annoying. any tips or tricks to get them to move? hopefully some of the chicks will be super dark egg layers, they have the genetics:fl.

Chickens will continue to roost where they have survived in the past. You might try and retrain them. Go up at roosting time and physically place them on the new roost bars and quickly turn the lights out. They shouldn't jump down in the dark. Do this for a couple nights and it should retrain them.

Good luck with the hatch! :jumpy
