Blue or Black Copper Marans

This guy was sold to me as a Black Copper Marans Roo. This may be a dumb question but is he not blue?

How old? I have Black Copper and Blue Copper Marans that are 9 weeks old. They are straight run and I have males and females. Yours looks more like a black copper maran in the picture, but I am new to the breed. I can see in the second pic that there appears to be that grey like feathering, like you would expect from a Blue, so maybe possible he is a darker blue copper maran.

Here is a Blue Splash Copper Maran (male) and a Blue Copper Maran (female) at approx 6 weeks old.

Here are the Black Copper Maran at 6 weeks. The one in front appears to be "blue" and should have been photographed with the above. The female behind that one is considered "mossy" in coloring, but she is a Black Copper Maran. The other two are more obviously black.

How old? Those are some heavily feathered feet yet no copper showing. Sold as a pure bred?

He is just about 10 weeks old. He seemed small for 5 weeks when I got him but I know some people round up their age when already off of lights. And yes he was sold to me as purebred but was not from a reputable breeder, was a backyard keeper.

Then I think it’s a mix. There’s no pink/white on the toes at all. Way too feathered feet for that age. Maybe silkie mix with that dark of skin? Does it always stand that erect? Just doesn’t look pure marans to me. I raise them and have had a few different lines none of which looked like that yet.

It does not usually stand like that I just tried to get a photo of the breast area for the blue shading. I will try to get more photos today. What about cochin cross? Where the lady said it was from has Cochins

I did think cochin at first but the lack of yellow on the legs... just know that isn’t a marans. Others may be able to help with mix.
