Blue Orpington Hatching eggs PA

I bought bantam orpington eggs from Dick last spring, and had a good hatch: 3 black, 2 blue, and 1 splash.....all hens! 2 of them just hatched some Ameracauna eggs for us last nite & today...I remember e-mailing him and it took a little bit or maybe even a 2nd one for him to get back to me, but eggs were fertile and the orps are beautiful. I would buy from him again, last year the eggs were ony $12 for 8 bantam size.

I just won Columbian cochin bantams eggs from him and it took a little while for him to respond to my emails but was friendly. I can't wait to get my eggs!!!!
The pics he has of them are beautiful!

I'm about to order Blue Orp hatching eggs from Dick and this thread has me put off a little... are they really that difficult to hatch? I live in NH so the eggs wouldn't travel TOO far... Also he's 4-6 weeks backed up in orders, so by the time he ships my eggs the weather will be a bit warmer. I'd go and get them myself but unfortunately his town is on the western border of PA, which is 12 hours from where I live!

Has anyone other than MRW had success with hatching Dick's bantam Orp eggs? Alternatively, does anyone know a bantam Orp breeder in New England? I don't wanna put all this time and money into hatching eggs and then have 0% success.

It's not a temperature issue (any more than with any kind of eggs), it seems to be the shipping process in general. I think I easily went through 4 dozen eggs to get four birds

I had one shipment of 24 that didn't do a thing.

I have incubated over 300 eggs to get the birds I have. That does not include the eggs I have hatched from my own stock. Shipped eggs can be a real heartbreaker but it is the price you have to be willing to pay to get stock that is breeder quailty.

If you aren't willing to put the money behind the effort and willing to risk a loss you will always be disappointed in the outcome - moreso with a hatch of 0%.

Most everyone with good stock has paid their dues with 0% hatch rates to get the flocks they have now established. You have to be willing to do the same if you really want them. If it were easy would it really be worth having?

Shippped BBS orps are so hard to hatch. No reflection on anyone here but I've got egg's from Speckledhen,MissPrissy, and Tuffoldhen and I have a total of 3 chicks to show for it.I'm getting more and not giving up but it's really tough and frustrating.

Thinks she is going to have to hatch Marlon some BBS and drive half way to SC and give them to him or Hmmm, Myrtle Beach is in SC, I may need a beach trip! lol

Sandy if this next batch doesn't yield more you may need to hatch me some and take a trip to to Myrtle Beach. lol Oh great hatchaholic

If you had told me sooner, SC, I could have set you some eggs. My momma is coming up here friday and leaving next week. You could have met her on I-20 somewhere and gotten chicks!
