I thought I would post photos of the chicks my broody hen hatched from eggs I bought from Halo. There were 5 eggs from barred rock hens and 4 from EE hens; they hatched May 19-20,2009. At first I thought all the gray ones were rock babies and the black ones were rock/EE babies, but I know that is wrong now! There are 3 with puffy cheeks and one of these is gray. So at least one of the "black" chicks is from the blue/barred rock cross, maybe 2. One of the gray pullets has a greenish cast to her legs, so I'm suspecting she might be a blue rock/EE cross. I welcome your thoughts!

Here's the thread from when they were chicks:

And here's a photo of them when they were little:

Here they are now:

We'll start with the cockerels:

Definite blue rock/EE - this one confused me when it was younger, because I thought all of the gray ones came from the rock eggs, but obviously that was not correct! See the puffy cheeks!

Definite blue rock/EE cockerel on the right - again with the puffy cheeks! On the left, a pullet - not sure if she is blue/barred rock or blue rock/EE. Her toes look a bit green to me.

Now for the pullets (I think they all are pullets, but have a little doubt about the rock/EE in the first photo):

Definite blue rock/EE on right with puffy cheeks;pullet on left - rock/rock or rock/EE?

A beautiful blue pullet!

Pretty sure from the color of the feet that this one is a blue/barred rock pullet:

More photos of beautiful pullets! Again, the toes of the one on the right look a bit green to me. Maybe this pullet is the 4th rock/EE chick.

One more!

Here's one more photo of one of the "black" pullets showing the shading in the feathers that is pretty true to what they look like. It is like charcoal outlined in ebony - a subtle shading.
