Hello all,

This is Wasabi and Sriracha, my sexed white Leghorn pullets. Bought at Tractor Supply on Feb 19th.

They are 2 weeks old and I know it’s probably too soon to tell… but Sriracha’s comb started developing FAST over the past two days.

This is my first time with this breed, and I know their combs are large. So I’m hoping this isn’t a beginning sign of a baby roo. Or I could also be kidding myself.

Their feathering patterns are different. Sriracha is feathering faster, and a little patchy. S/he is definitely the bolder of the two. Very friendly, loves attention. We’re already becoming buddies.

Any thoughts? Is this normal for Leghorns? I love roosters and I’ll figure it out if she is a he, but I already have two boys. It’s going to be hard to make room for a 3rd.

Comb development in and of itself in a breed like leghorns is really a poor indicator... this first comb, while developing is still pale, and what can be seen of where the bottles will develop is also still very pale and not showing any development or color at this point. So not screaming Cockerel, but not a definite pullet yet either. Honestly at this age/stage I would be more interested in seeing a nice full body shot of the birds we can look at how it's feathering, what its overall build looks like and how we can combine that with the pieces you have shown to look at the overall puzzle and make it better educated guess

Thank you!

edit: photos are not posting in the order I want them to. These are the baby in question. Adding the pics of the other baby in a separate reply.

That comb would be making me nervous, too, but I think you will just have to wait and see.

Leghorns tend to mature fast, so if you do have a male, he will probably be really obvious before too much longer.

Maybe post photos in another week or two, and see how much it has changed at that time.

I swear that little comb sprouted out of nowhere! Practically overnight. It was the first sign on my other boys very early on, but they’re not Leghorns.

Little buddy definitely has me nervous. This is the first time I’ve ever been like NOOOOO, please don’t be a boy! I’m cursed when it comes to roos - 2 for 2 on straight runs, 1 for 1 on hatched eggs. I don’t mind being cursed because I love them, but I’m so out of room.

We got these babies because my OGs are aging. The older roo needs a bigger flock. We just lost his favorite girl to (suspected) cancer, and the two remaining hens don’t like him.

Oh well. It is what it is. We’ll see what happens.

Boldness doesn't really tell you anything with leghorns because they're all crazy 😂 my Leghorn is a psycho but I still love her lol also her comb and waddles developed incredibly quick and pinked up very fast when she was young. 2 weeks old is too early. You'll probably get a better idea in a couple weeks! 🤞🤞🤞
