Blue Splash Americauna ~ 20 weeks - Starting to crow!

Hi Folks - I can't tell if I have a dominant hen who is just exerting her POWER or if maybe I ended up with a Roo...because she started crowing this week.

Can any experts please help me identify - it is illegal for me to keep a Roo here in Seattle, and I'll either have to cull her/him or rehome.

Definitely a boy! He's got male specific saddle and hackle feathers. Sorry!

Good news is he's quite handsome and you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a home for him if you don't want to cull and eat him.

He's very handsome! If I wasnt literally on the other side of the country I'd take him! I have 4 blue splash ameraucana hens around his age!

If I lived in an area that allowed roosters I'd probably have more roos than hens!

It's very rare for a pullet to start crowing. It mainly happens in mature hens due to hormonal issues caused by aging or a damaged ovary. I've had at least three hens crow over the years and they were all older.

I'm so sad - he was my new favorite from this lot.

Cockerels usually are the "friendliest." Doesn't mean they will be friendly when they mature, however.
