I have a blue splash Maran, less than a year old, being severely picked on by my other girls. They were raised together, but our roo was a little rough on her the other day and managed to pluck some of her feathers. In the morning, she had pretty much all her feathers as normal. When I went to check on them later in the day, she had her whole backside basically pecked and plucked (not by our roo, we caught all our girls in the act). She's always been at the bottom of the pecking order and is very timid around the other flock members, but it just seems to be getting worse these days. I separated her in the hopes her feathers would start to regrow and she could be re-introduced, but I don't really have a place to keep her longer-term with the weather changing.

I'm hoping another chicken lover here could possibly take her in, maybe someone with a small flock or a single lonely hen. She's very intimidated by other birds, so she's an easy target for the more assertive girls. I really just want her to be okay. She's not even a year old yet (born end of February) and consistently lays (before this incident, separation, and weather) a beautiful shade of brown. The egg on the far right is hers, compared to a different Maran egg in the middle. She looks terrible now, but usually she's very beautiful, full tailed, feathered legs and all.

Wish I was closer…she’s gorgeous even missing feathers. ❤️
Thank you! Yeah I feel that way too even if she's in rough shape. I forgot to mention her name! Chickpea has always been one of my favorites. If I wasn't so attached to one of the girls who is picking on her, I would have rehomed the rest and kept Chickpea instead.

Aww poor baby girl. I'm in Illinois and could take her but it's a bit of a drive. If you don't find anyone else we would be willing to drive part way. I have a very misfit flock and for the most part are pretty chill. I have several special needs hens that don't even get picked on.

Ah I never gave an update and I'm not sure how to edit my posts (if that's even possible), but Chickpea has found a new home with Adams Farmhouse. Thank you for the support, and special thanks to Adams Farmhouse for taking her in and nursing her back to the healthy and happy hen she should have always been. :hugs

Awww you are very welcome!! I am so glad it worked out. Chickpea is such a sweet girl and has fit right in with the flock. She is making friends, her feathers are filling in and she is even laying eggs. We just love her so much!! ❤️
