Does anyone have pictures of a cross between these two maran colors
I believe this is a product of this cross Blue Maran Rooster.

I only have splash and black copper. Does it look like it could be some type of other cross? I looked on feathersite and there is a picture of one blue maran rooster tha looks similar.
So I guess what I'm looking for are other pictures of Blue Maran Roosters

Check this out. Scroll down to the Blue Maran Roo

I did not see a Marans on that page to be the color of yours.

Remember chickens and breeds on Feathersite can be from all over the world and may not be the color/variety in the US.

That said to look at yours it looks to be a blue cuckoo with light gold leakage.

I don't know genetics to the degree many here on BYC do but your roo is not a product of a splash/blue copper breeding. The cuckoo pattern is a totally different gene.

So many people have mixed colors of Marans so that many don't breed pure.

If you only have a Splash Marans and a Black Copper then Splash has to be a Splash Cuckoo and the Splash has to be the mother....Cuckoo females can only pass along the barring/cuckoo gene to her male offspring....hence you have a bird that got the barring gene from his mother and the gold leakage is from the the Black Copper. He is blue because when a Splash bird is crossed to a Black bird all the of the offspring will be blue.
Sometimes it is very hard to discern a Splash Cuckoo from a Splash.

Hope this helps.

Do you have photos of the parents?

Ok,

Here's the scoop.

At the time these eggs were collected I had Black French Copper Marans in with Splash Marans. They did free range with other breeds but the funny thing the Marans had their own coop and rarely went and mingled with the others. The only other roos that they could have been fathered from were Black & Blue pure Ameraucanas which I highly doubt mated with the splash hens. They all hang out together and have their own coop.

I collected only my maran, pure Ameraucana as well as EE eggs and gave them to a second grade class to hatch for Easter.

I do have Splash maran Roos and hens and BFCM hens and roos.

I'll try to get some pictures soon.

So does he look pure Maran though? I think so. A friend told me I would get blues from that crossing. No matter what his color I think it is striking !! He is a nice roo too !! Personality wise.
