Blue Orp rooster over RIRxBuff Orp hen produced a black cockerel chick with major barring. Obviously, the roo has a barring gene that just cropped up in the chick, but my question is,could you produce Blue Barred Orpingtons with this boy? Would crossing this cockerel over a Splash Orp hen give you the blues you normally expect from black over splash? And would there be barring in the blue, do you think? Not sure how the red/buff in his lineage would affect the outcome of black over splash. Genetics people, here's your puzzle! I am giving away this 3/4 Orp barred cockerel, but I'd like to be able to tell the new owner what direction to go with him as a genetics project. I will try to get good pics of the chick in question, if need be. Thanks in advance for your input!

I know the barring gene is dominant in some cases. That would be one interesting project too!

It would be interesting to see how this line would go!

I'm not sure if you know of this site, Speckledhen, but I have been fooling around with it for a while.

I tried crossing a Blue Barred bird to a Blue bird and the offspring turned out to be Splash Barred?, Blue Barred, and Black Barred.

I have no idea what he'll grow up to look like, exactly. There are Barred Orps across the pond, I believe, but I don't know of any here. I do know that one of Suede's sons in Idaho threw a barred chick, but haven't seen a pic of him/her in a long time.
