My BO was the last chicken to join our flock 3 months+ ago. She is at the lower end of the pecking order and is overly docile.
I find her sitting alone in the mulch out front while all the others are foraging in the woods out back... she has stopped letting me pick her up as well. : ( Maybe it's me that's sad!!!

That's a shame. Would it be possible to get another BO and put them just with each other for a day or two? I don't know whether it would work, but it's all I can think of, and probably what I'd try. BO's are definitely a docile breed, and often chickens do tend to hang around with others who look more or less like themselves.

I lost all but one chick in a hatch once. The group of chicks had been growing up within the flock and were tolerated when the others were killed. That one chick tended to stay off by herself for about a year, foraging away from the others, then gradually moving closer, til she finally appeared to become one of the group. It was months before she would share the same roost with the rest of the flock, as well. It was pretty sad, but at least now she is one of the gang.

thank you for the reply- sounds like a nice idea... i'm limited on space however. but, i may try if I have to. She stayed with them about 50% of today, and I am tempted to bring a flash light out and see how she is in the coop. I think she stays in a nesting box. Another chicken does stay with her sometimes, she's low in the order as well. My whole flock is a mix of breeds, really cool to see but maybe it does effect things. They are all rather young only the 2 older birds (who rule the roost) are a year the rest just beginning to lay. Maybe once she lays an egg her personality will get happier. Glad your girls are doing well. Thanks again!
