Do hens take breaks from laying from time to time? I know broody hens, or molting hens, or cold hens will stop for a while.

My BO started laying in October, and laid well all winter. She is in great feather, bright eyed, and active. She just stopped about 3 weeks ago.

I keep an eye on her in case there's an internal issue, but she looks perfectly normal. She has a big butt, but that's nothing new for her. All of my chickens that took a break over winter have started back since spring arrived. Just curious if I should worry about her, or if a few week dry spell is normal for an otherwise consistent layer.

Mine did the same thing before she went broody. Watch that she isn't just going to sit on some eggs or something. I'm trying to break my girl now and it is sad.

That's a possibility I suppose. I had a Marans and a Barred Rock go broody this winter, but it seem like they spent extra time in the nest box leading up to broodiness, and my Orp hasn't been in at all. I hope she goes broody! I'd love to see her with chicks.
