boardgame copyright question

There is a game that I want to give to nephew for christmas. Is it a bad thing if I make it for him myself instead of buying it?

Technically it is copyright infringement, but if it is just for him, and you are not trying to sell it, I would do it anyways. Sometimes we have to do what we have to do to save money and still make the holidays fun.

Like deb said, unless you try to sell copies, the copyright cops aren't going to bust down your door or anything

When I took a class for designing curriculium for children, we often were told to make a game knock-off. For example I made a "candyland style" game for when the kids did a unit on rocks... "diamond mine" Complete with a travelocity gnome knock off for the game pieces (made with sculpty clay).
