I recently put dropping boards on top of the pine shavings underneath the roost in our coop. How often does everyone clean them? It's only been a week and it's already smelly and attracting a ton of flies.

I scoop every morning, and I use PDZ. There's rarely any smell, unless one of the hens has just dropped a cecal poop, or when the poop collection bucket is open.

The idea behind a board is the poop is all right there, and it holds the PDZ to help neutralize the odor.

What you have is nothing more than an 'extra layer' of coop floor.

My boards are raised ~30" off the floor and have a thin layer of PDZ,
I sift the entirety every day.

Here's some posts about it, they're kind of old, but changes are noted.
...and the threads these posts are in has a ton of examples of poop boards.
