Bob White Quail

I agree I had mine a year before I saw any eggs. If you want immediate gratificaion try Coturnix-Pharoh quail. They are sexually mature at six weeks.

I am not sure why but even after I put them under lights it takes 2-3 weeks for them to get going full production

Maybe that's the time it takes to get their bodies ready to run, (start producing hormones, etc.). Usually when people say (like I did) that a species of bird start laying when daylight reaches certain value, doesn't mean that it works like a ON/OFF switch, very probably they "feel" stimulated sooner, which starts to prepare the body for breeding season, then the first egg is laid around that daylight value so people say it like that.

Yes one set up I have I just use a timer from wally world and have brooder lights clamped to the top of my lean to, my other lean -to I have electrical work boxes and lamp bases my coturnix seem to get stimulated quicker then the bobs you will also run into some hen bobs that after they get done laying they just stop at some point they do not pay attention to the lights and the rest quit when I turn the lights off

YOU'LL DO BEST BY NEVER EVER GIVING ANY QUAIL EGG SHELLS AS THEYT CAN BE PROBLEMATIC ABOUT EGG EATING TO START WITH AND THIS WILL REINFORCE THAT. IF YOU DO FEED EGGS/ EGG SHELLS MAKE SURE THEY A MUSHED UP BEYOND RECOGNITION

Yes I do crush them into tiny pieces( food processor) and add a bit to their feed. Guess I'd better stop that, sure dont want em eatin the eggs

MANY DO THIS WITH MIXED RESULTS, JUST KINDA DEPENDS ON THE BIRDS... SINCE EGG SALES ARE MY BUSINESS I DONT RISK IT (BESIDES I DONT HAVE TIME TO FOOL WITH PREPARING THE SHELLS..) I GET AND USE OYSTER GRIT (ULTRA FINE CRUSHED OYSTER SHELL THE SIZE OF CHICK GRIT) AND USUALLY I FIND COTURNIX MOST PRONE TO IT, BUT BOB WILL CERTAIN EAT EGGS AS WELL... AROUND HERE ITS THE MOST OBSCENE FELONY AND CARRIES A HEAVY AND IMMEDIATE PENALTY.... 1ST OFFENSE THE SENTANCE IS DEATH BY IMMERSION IN HOT PEANUT OIL...... STRANGELY THERE ARE NO REPEAT OFFENDERS
