Do any of you make bobbin lace? I'd like to learn. I'll probably end up getting one of the better quality kits I've seen on the Internet. I hope I can learn from a book. I don't know of anyone around here that I could ask for help.

I have thought about learning to bobbin lace. I just do not have the time right now, so I will have to stick with my tatting.
At least the tatting is easy to take with me.
I'm hoping that when I find the time to learn, the lady in Laramie will still be teaching it at her custom quilting shop. It looks really cool.

I also thought of learning tatting. I have the supplies. If I had to choose though, I'd learn bobbin lace. They're both so beautiful though.

I've never seen it before, until I stopped at the ladies store with a friend who was buying a quilting machine from her.
She had an old antique chair set out with a bobbin lace project on a pillow as a display. It was jsut so pretty.

So you use the same type of thread for bobbin lace that is used for tatting?

I assume, although historically silk or linen was used. I read that the cotton fibers were too short to make the fine thread needed for bobbin lace with the technology of the day. You can use much more than just regular cotton thread, but I think cotton is used most often now.
