OK, how do Bob White compare in taste to CA Valleys?

I know everyone says that bobs taste better than coturnix but they sound a right nightmare to keep! Are they worth the hassle? My coturnix are such sweet calm birds, it would take a taste sensation to make me change over!

Seriously, they aren't for the impatient person that does not want a lot of time and money in them, especially to turn a profit. Nor are they for someone who has zero tolerence for animals that can't get along with their roommates from time to time.

But Boy Howdy.............when they're laying in a big dish in front of you all covered up with gravy, and you bite into that delicious juicy white breast meat, it makes it all worth while .......at least for me!!

This is a 6' x 16' I built this summer. It has an aluminum sheet partition in the middle to make it two pens in one 6' x 8'. The partition is on hinges at the top, and can be swung up and locked out of the way to make one big pen. I'm in the middle of building 2 more of these.... I just don't wanna stop gettin' bigger, but wifey may influence my thinkin' before too long.........lol

Just browsing your thread. The feeder is almost identical to the one I use for my banties [except for the great filer top! WOW!] I use a 2" to 4" pvc adapter in the brooder, then add the tall pipes when they go to the grow-out pens [2'tall - an adapted puppy play pen

] and 4' tall for the coop. The way I prevent spillage is to cut the cardboard roll from toilet tissue in half, fit it into the hole in the center of the jar-feeder-bottom so that it is within 1/2" of the bottom before I add the adapter -- this prevents the feed from being close enough to the feeder openings to being scooped out. This em of an idea came from another BYCer and works great! Just passing on his random act of kindness in sharing. Thinking of hatching some buttons to donate to nursing homes to keep their aviary pen's floors clean. Know myself well enough to know I will want to keep a few

Here is a picture of my base.you can't see the cardboard TT roll inside it fits tightly enough to stay where you put it. I also use just the one adapter 4" to 2". When I add the 4" PVC pipe, I will turn over the 4" 'test lid', drill a hole in it, thread a 12" length of nylon rope thru', tie a double overhand knot in the 'tube end' and a loop knot on the outside for a handle to pull it off/out for filling [no fingernails to pry it loose

Like others that are new to quail, I was floored by the amount of wasted feed baby quail create. We have 14 A&M's 1 week old (plug: from James/Marie farm) and I have been scratching my head daily for a solution. Digging through the forum yesterday I came across this idea. I an currently using a plastic round bottom feeder so I picked up a 4X2" reducer this morning. I had some 2" PVC at home so I trimmed a piece for the downspout instead of the toilet paper roll. I want to gladly report this has eliminated the crazy spillage that had been occurring. The quail can no longer get in the feeder and climb up in the jar. I think they did this for fun. At first there were a few that were desperately trying to get in the feeder but soon realized it just wasn't going to happen. Definitely a good option for anyone dealing with quail wasting their feed. Thanks

HI: If anyone is interested in getting paid for some past prime, non-hatching, non-eating quail eggs check out my "WANTED" posting. I'm looking for WHITE bob white quail eggs at a reasonable price (or free if you feel so inclined) that I can use for making a halloween tree for a childrens hospital. I do egg art (see my avitar photo) and that's what these will be used for. I'll be happy to pay shipping.

I will also take any other kinds of quail that anyone might have as well...
