This is my first year raising bobwhite quail. We received the quail from Murray McMurray Hatchery, 106 birds. We planned on raising them and having some game bird supper. Unfortunately a raccoon snuck in the coop and killed all but 8.

I would like to start to incubate eggs and was wondering if they would start laying before spring. How long is it till they begin laying. They are about 6-7 months old now.

They can start laying around 16 weeks of age but often start around 21 to 25 weeks.

Most will start at 20 weeks, but will wait till spring. Give them 16 hr of light total, that will make them think its spring. feed a 28% layer eggs soon after.
