I have only 2 bobwhites from 12 eggs I set ( got them off ebay ) the plan was to hatch a small flock of them and send them to the zoo that I donate birds to for thier larger flight pens

but since these 2 were the only ones to hatch the zoo will not take just 2 birds -- I dont plan on raiseing any bobs - I am not really liking how crazy flighty these 2 are ( compared to my coturnix )

I want to sell them but I want to make sure I have them sexed correctly

both of the bobs have the same head markings so I only took pics of the one I could grab

also is it normal for these guys to bite?? while I was holding this one in one hand trying to get the pic with the other he/she bite me !!

these are really young birds so I am sure it was bitting because they are not used to me holding me - but still OUCH !!

Those are young Bob Roos that haven't fully developed the color on their heads. Obviously you won't be getting anything to reproduce out of two roos. However, they do make good BBQ if you don't find a home for them. And yes, Bobwhites are flighty and can bite or peck you.

well crud I was hopeing that the only 2 babies to hatch would be a pair -- but I kinda knew the chance of that was not good with my luck of touching an egg and hatching out roos LOL

well I know they will not be going to to the zoo - since I have to hold off on hatching any more bobs right now ( since I am picking up 10 Phesants babies I will be foster mom to for awhile )

I have raised chickens, and ducks, and button and coturnix and have NEVER been pecked or bitten by any of them but those bobs OUCH !!! nasty little bugger

I will place an ad Tuesday to try and sell them along with some button quail eggs and the boxer puppies

thanks everyone for taking a look at the pics for me !!

The ONLY time I have had them bite or peck me is when I grabbed them. We had a Coturnix Roo that loved to play fight with you. He was so funny. It was more like a puppy wanting to play as he would eventually just jump on your hand and perch. He would peck hard too. And then of course my chickens are constantly after my wedding ring.

Can't convince them that gold shiny thing isn't good to eat.

the one bob I was holding managed to get me in between fingers and it pinched pretty hard -- but I was more surprised than hurt did not break the skin or anything.

my Coturnix roo is an A&M ( I guess that is what the whire ones are lol ) and when I collect eggs or do the feed/water thing he will lay down and stretch his neck out as far as he can and just lay there real still I can pet him and pick him up once he does that with no problem - he will not even move if the hens step on him LOL

so far no calls about these 2 boys -- I will let the ad in paper run for 1 more week and see what happens
