Boil?

My 6week old chick named Nessie has a boil thingy on the right side of her chest. I thought it was her crop protruding. So I gave a little starter feed with baby grit. Swelling went down and I noticed it wasn't her gut or stomach but rather a dime sized hard knot. No heat coming from the knot. Any suggestions what it is. How it was caused.

Btw I got my chicks from the local tractor supply in morganton nc.

So it went away and came back?

I'm guessing this is the natural process of a crop filling and emptying. It should be empty in the morning and full before roost time.

Is the chick eating, drinking and acting normally?
