My mom was wondering why its so hard to boil freash chicken eggs. She tryed today and failed. The egg stuck to the shells. Why does it do this with freash eggs? It doesnt happen with eggs from the store.

I read in several places that you should only hard boil eggs that are at least 5 days old or they will stick. Never a problem with store bought eggs.

Oh, you're not the only one with this issue! If you do a search you'll be able to find several threads about this.

I am able to hard boil my eggs the day they're laid because somebody posted on here how to do it. It sounds simple and it actually works...

Put water in a pot and add a bunch of salt (I think it's like 1/4 cup or along those lines - I just dump a bunch of salt into the pot). Let the water come to a boil and THEN add the eggs using a slotted spoon. Boil for 17 (yes 17) minutes - but I think someone else boils for 12 minutes. Then take 'em out, let 'em cool for a little and then they peel easily.

Give it a try!

Yup, I heard something about salt as well. I think there might be a technique that involves punching a pinhole in the shell, also... I'll have to check out those links to be sure.

The only method I've found that works reliably is to put the eggs in the water as you're heating it up. Once it begins to boil, time it for 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and take the eggs out with a spoon/ladel/watever is handy and move them into a water and ice mixture. When they're cool, peel with ease!

I usually crack the end that has the air cell first and go in a winding motion around the egg.

Works on fresh and old eggs alike.

That is just about the same thing we do. The only difference is we salt the water and boil the water first, then add the eggs and continue for 14 minutes. It doesn't matter how old the eggs are either. They still peel very easy.
