Hi all! I just got a few silkie chickens, and I was wondering how you go about bonding with them? I know that they need a lot of attention, so should I just make sure to interact with them every day and they'll learn to like me? Thank you!

Hi! I have silkies too,
Well you need to check their butts at least once a day , if they get poop stuck on them (called pastybutt), they can die . So if you see a dirty butt , wash it then apply Vaseline.

So you’ll be handling them lots, talk to them, hold them , let them sit on you ( they poop all the time ), keep them warm and know that they need to be by their heat source most of the time .

They will be scared of you,
Just keep picking them up,
And we do require some cute pictures too

I usually hold out feed in my open palm calling them as they eat. Once they start getting used to eating out of my still hand I start to move it just a little so they get used to seeing your hand move and they don't get spooked by your moving hand. Silkies are generally very friendly so it doesn't take much work with them.

Interact with them as they look for feed and water. Either use their language or human talk to show them things. Spend lots of time with them. I use live insects to drive point home on occasion.
