I used to have 3, happy 4 year old hens all together (these are the chicks in my profile picture). However, two of my hens died recently due to an unknown illness and some nasty ruthless animal that got into the coop somehow. I've secured it up tight, but my last remaining chicken seemed lonely and depressed. I know how social chickens can be, so i decided to get some new, younger members so that she won't have to live the rest of her life all alone.

I bought three new 5 month old hens and have introduced them to the flock, no real big trouble there other than the usual pecking and re-establishment of the pecking order. However, I'm just concerned about how well these new chickens are going to react to me.

My last three chickens i raised from just baby chicks, and there has always been this close bond between me and then hens that I loved. I'm worried that because the new chicks were never imprinted on me, that they will always be distant or mean. Does anyone have any experience with this or have any good ideas about what to do. I really want the new birds to be comfortable around me more than anything, so leave me a reply. Thank you!!

I don't sit on the ground, but do sit in the coop each day with a cup of coffee. Don't try and catch them, just sit quietly, occasionally sprinkle a few treats away from you, gradually move the treats closer to you. They will get over being scared of you, and make friends. One day they jump in your lap. mrs k
