Boo Boo and DE

I'm not sure about using DE, but raw honey can be put on wounds. If you can get it, Manuka honey would be best--check the health food store. Avoid using processed honey.

I wouldnt do that, the DE, I mean. Just because it dries it up doesn't mean it is healing right. Salt will dry up a wound, but a persistant salty environment will keep new tissue from forming, as a nurse friend of mine pointed out. Dont know about DE, though. Not sure what it would do. Still, I'd stick with flushing it with a mild sterile saline solution, clean with something like Betadine or even Bactine and put a gauze pad with antibiotic ointment over the wound, if possible.

Thanks.... I have been putting neosporin on it and it is looking better. I am worried about flies getting in it. I think I am going to isolate her and cover it up. It just isn;t healing fast enough and my roo isn't helping!!!

I've read where DE is not good at all for open wounds...thats why your told to put on gloves if you have cuts on your hands when spreading DE around the coop....
