Boom!!

One of my male rheas decided to boom for the first time this morning! Isn't it a bit early? It was pretty cool though, I'm sitting with the living room window wide open (33 degrees F!) in case he does it again!

So they aren't like Emus, where it's the females that Boom ?

Interesting! No, its used by the male as a mating call. Do female emus boom all year round or is it just in mating season?

The females will boom all year but much more during breeding season..... males just grunt.
