This little one was in the bantam bin. I have two Millie Fleur D'Uccles that are around 12 weeks and originally thought this was another one. But this one seems to be so much lighter than the other two were. Could it still be the same.. maybe just lighter or something completely different maybe? Doesn’t matter either way just curious as to what we may have received:)

From my research, many hatcheries have D'Uccles, but some chicks in a batch that have no beards or muffs are just the booted bantams. I'm not sure if this is some sort of recessive gene or what. Or if there's some 50/20 split on them having the beards and muffs vs none at all.

I personally am going to breed my booted bantams without no beards or muffs.

I have also learned there's a Mille Fleur Pyncheon which is similar to the D'Uccles but has no beards or muffs, ( has a tassel of feathers on the head and clean, and no feathers on legs). The tassel is more like longer feathers on the head and not a poof like the Polish breeds. Hope that makes sense. This is an American breed separate from the D'Uccles. Hope that helps.

Is her comb straight or pea (3 bumpy rows)? If pea comb, this may actually be a Buff Brahma Bantam which look very similar to Mille Fleur D'uccle Bantams when young.

X2. I'm curious about her comb as well. She does look similar to my buff brahma bantams. I've got 2 of them and one Mille Fleur d'Uccle.

As previously stated, booted bantams wouldn't have the beard. A purebred d'Uccle should, but maybe (also as mentioned) some hatchery birds don't. All mind definitely do.

She's adorable!

Looking closer, I do think she's got a single comb. My guess is a Mille Fleur booted bantam, since no beard. Unless it is correct that sometimes hatchery quality d'Uccles don't have a beard or muffs.

Yes, this statement is correct. Not all Hatchery Mille Fleur D'uccles have beards or muffs. Some literally market them as "booted bantams" instead. Even without a beard, this breed is incredibly easy to tame and are friendly little bird who.are likely to go broody within a couple springs 🙂

Thank you for clarifying! I'm very new, lol, so I'm learning things every day here. I believe that, my d'Uccles are so sweet and docile.

From my research, I was under the impression that if they have no beards or muffs, then they aren't considered D'Uccles and are not part of the SOP. Are booted bantams technically DUccle's and then, just it's a sub-section of a breed since they don't have the bears or muffs? Similar to how a Pembroke Welsh Corgi has a Fluffy line, but that's from a recessive gene, so just rare or considered a fluke, but still a Corgi? Is it like that?
